Advice to a Buttercup Seed
Jacqueline O.
The journey you face will be prolonged
Filled with adversaries.
Growing up in a garden will be austere
With no one to guide you.
Rely on your instincts.
There will be foes like
Prying birds and choking weeds.
But, every negative is evened by a positive.
There will be benefactors bursting sunlight and refreshing rain,
Even a genial gardener is looking out for you.
As you thrust through the terrain
Your roots will extend,
Like a maze beneath you.
The inky soil will give way
To a brilliant blue sky and blinding sun.
Your first rain outside will splash down
Providing you with strength.
It will splatter upon your delicate form,
But will not break you.
As you struggle to survive remember:
You can do this.
When you bloom
Into a soft yellow flower
From seedhood into a flowering blossom,
it will be demanding.
But you will thrive.
